Antonio Krapovikas ( Spanish Antonio Krapovickas , October 8, 1921 - August 17, 2015 ) is an Argentine botanist-florist, plant physiologist, one of the first plant cytosystematics.

Biography
Born in Buenos Aires on October 8, 1921 . In 1945, his first article on botany was published in the Argentine Agronomic Journal, in which the taxonomy of the Malvaceae family plants was examined. In 1949, the work of Krapovikas was published, in which, based on the cell structure, he delimited species of the genus Sphaeralcea .
He worked at the Institute of Botany, in 1949 he was transferred to the Manfredi Agricultural Station near Cordoba , where he began to study the origin of cultivated peanuts .
Since 1949, Antonio Krapovikas was a professor of genetics at the National University of Cordoba .
In 1954, Krapovikas won a Guggenheim scholarship , studied many samples of peanuts in various herbariums of the United States. Upon his return from the United States, he worked at the Miguel Lillo Institute in Tucuman . Since 1964, he headed the Department of Genetics of the National Northeastern University . In 1999, he became an extraordinary professor.
In 1967–1969 and 1972–1974, Krapovikas was president of the Argentine Botanical Society, and in 1983–1985, the Argentine Genetic Society.
In 1997, Krapovikas was awarded the A. Burkart Prize of the National Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, as well as corresponding member of the Argentine Academy of Sciences. In 2012, he became the doctor of honoris causa of the National University of Rosario . Corresponding Member of the Botanical Society of America .
He died on August 17, 2015 at the age of 93 years.
