Chresmodidae (lat.) Is a fossil insect family from the Polyneoptera supercarp . 3 genera found in Jurassic and Cretaceous deposits (100-200 million years ago) in Europe ( Great Britain , Germany and Spain ), South America ( Brazil ) and Asia ( China , Lebanon , Mongolia , Myanmar ) [1] [2] [3] [4] .

Description

Large insects (up to 14 cm long) with very long specialized legs. Hips long, tibia short and very long multi-segmented tarsi, containing up to 40 segments (a feature unique among all insects). Presumably, Chresmodidae were adapted for gliding along the water surface, just as modern water- bug bugs do , and lived on lakes and lagoons, feeding on insects. Antennae short and thick, mouth organs chewing and prognathic, large facet eyes. Females have two pairs of wings (males and nymphs are absent). On the abdomen there are single-segmented tserki and a long ovipositor [5] [6] [7] .

Systematics

An ancient group of winged insects , which are included in the polyneoptera supercort . They lived in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods . They have a long and complex taxonomic history. Their different authors assigned to different orders: Mantodea (in 1839 when the type species was first described), Hemiptera ( Heteroptera : Gerromorpha , according to Popov, 1980) [8] , Paraplecoptera (' Grylloblattodea ', according to Ponomarenko, 1985) [9 ] , Orthoptera [10] . Martynov A.V. carried them in 1928 to the sticks [11] . Modern authors more often include Polyneoptera, within which the Chresmodidae family belongs either to Phasmatodea (Holophasmatodea), or to Archaeorthoptera [10] .
