Biography

Giovanna Novella was the eldest daughter in the family of Spinetta the Great (1282 - 1.3.1352), the lord and Margrave Fozdinovo and Verrukola and Beatrice Visconti. The exact date of her birth is unknown, but the date of marriage by her parents is known - 1310. In addition to Giovanna Novella, the parents had two more daughters: Elizabeth and Gidda [1] [2] .

The first marriage was combined with Lucemburgo Spinola di Luccoli, the Genoese patrician. The marriage was childless. Widowed, in 1340 she married a second time to the widower Ludovico Gonzaga (1268 - 18.1.1360), the Venetian and Mantua patrician, people's captain Mantua, for whom this was the third marriage. Eight children were born into the family of Giovanna Novella and Ludovico - six sons and two daughters [4] [5] [6] :

  • Giovanni Gonzaga, a Venetian patrician, married an unknown by name, from whom he had three sons;
  • Bartolomeo Gonzaga, Venetian patrician;
  • Azzo Gonzaga (d. 1412), the Venetian patrician;
  • Francesco Gonzaga, Venetian patrician;
  • Giacomo, or Jacopo Gonzaga, the Venetian patrician, died a baby;
  • Mario Gonzaga, a Venetian patrician, died an infant;
  • Tommasina Gonzaga, a Venetian patrician, married Alidosio Alidosi, an Imolian patrician, the son of Roberto Alidosi, the ruler of Imola ;
  • Orietta Gonzaga, Venetian patrician.

According to other sources, there were no children in this marriage [7] .
