Biography
Karoy Wieland was born on May 1, 1934 in Budapest . He began to actively engage in rowing in early childhood, was trained in the capital's sports club "Chepel".
He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1954, when he joined the Hungarian national team and attended the world championships in French Macon, from where he brought the gold dignity won in the classification of double canoes at a distance of 10,000 meters.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, Vieland was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympics in Melbourne . Together with team-mate Ferenc, Mohachi took the third place in the two thousand meters and won the Olympic bronze medal, losing only to the crews from Romania and the USSR in the decisive race. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end his sports career, giving way to young Hungarian rowers in the national team.
In 1973, he emigrated to Germany with his wife , changing name to Karl Wieland. Now lives in the city of Weinheim .
