Biography
Vladimir Dolganov was born in St. Petersburg on July 2, 1868 [1] (according to other sources - in 1867 ) [2] [3] . In 1885 he graduated from high school with a silver medal [1] . In 1890 he graduated with honors from the Military Medical Academy . During his studies, he worked in the eye clinic with Professor V.I. Dobrovolsky , later with L.G. Bellarminov . In 1893 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "On the effect of locally applied substances on diffusion into the anterior chamber of the eye" [1] .
Since 1893 - assistant of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Military Medical Academy [2] . In 1896 he was sent abroad for advanced training. He worked in clinics in Berlin , Munich , Heidelberg , Paris . After returning to Russia, he received the post of assistant professor and continued to work at the Department of Ophthalmology [1] . In 1904 he was elected head of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Imperial Clinical Institute of the Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna . With him, the clinical base of the department was created, new equipment was installed. From 1910 to 1920, he was elected four times the rector of the institute. During this period, the number of institute departments increased from 7 to 23, the area of clinical bases was increased. Dolganov headed the department of ophthalmology until 1925. From 1925 until the end of his life, he headed the Department of Eye Diseases of the Military Medical Academy [3] .
Specialist in the field of military ophthalmology, physiological optics, treatment of eye damage with chemical warfare agents. The author of about 100 scientific papers. Under his scientific supervision, 30 candidates and doctors of medical sciences were trained [1] .
He died at the end of 1941 in besieged Leningrad . He was buried at the Theological Cemetery [1] (plot 33).
