Biography
Sergey Ekimov was born on November 25, 1985 in the city of Tynda, Amur Region , but subsequently moved to Khabarovsk for permanent residence, where he began to actively engage in boxing.
Amateur career
He played in amateur boxing for seven years, although he did not achieve significant achievements here. It is known that in 2008 he represented Russia in the under 81 kg category at the World Student Championship in Kazan , but already in the opening match with a score of 13:17 he lost to the Belarusian boxer Sergey Korneev [1] .
He is a master of sports of Russia in boxing.
Professional career
He made his debut at the professional level in October 2009, his first rival Sergey Beloshapkin from St. Petersburg won by unanimous decision in four rounds. In total, over the course of two years, he had six successful fights, of which he invariably came out the winner. He played mainly at tournaments of promoter Vladimir Khryunov , so in May 2011 he boxed on the undercard of a resonant boxing evening Denis Lebedev - Roy Jones [2] .
In 2012, Yekimov took part in the semi-professional league of TAIFFight survival battles (according to the rules, the battles consisted of one round lasting 12 minutes and took place in a reduced ring 4x4 meters). He won here in the category up to 80 kg, in particular, in the finals he defeated future world champion Fedor Chudinov [3] .
Returning to classic boxing, in October 2013 Ekimov met with the unbeaten Chechen boxer Apti Ustarkhanov and defeated him by a decision of the majority of judges. In the next match, he boxed with Konstantin Piternov , with whom he had already fought three times in the framework of the TAFFITE league (the score in the opposition at that time was 2: 1 in Piternov's favor). This time Ekimov won by technical knockout in the second round, after Piternov was injured and could not continue the fight.
By the beginning of 2014, he already had ten victories in his track record without a single defeat, while his manager during this period was the famous boxer Alexander Bakhtin [4] . Thanks to a series of successful performances, he received the right to challenge the vacant CIS and Slavic champion title in the light heavyweight category according to the World Boxing Council - in the second round, Yekimov knocked out the representative of Kazakhstan, Mikhail Krinitsyn, and took the championship belt for himself [5] . In 2015, he was marked by a technical knockout victory over Romanian Vasile Dragomir. The year 2016 began with successful performances in the rings of Spain and Latvia [6] [7] .
