Biography
He graduated from the University of Graz (1948), after which he entered as the second conductor in the Ravensburg City Theater. In 1951-1965 worked in the Graz opera , repeatedly participated in the Bayreuth festival as an assistant to Hans Knapperstsush and Karl Böhm . In 1966-1969 headed the Durban Symphony Orchestra in South Africa , then in 1969-1970. worked with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra . In 1970-1985 general münster , then in 1985-1987. headed the Symphony Orchestra of Radio and Television of the French Community of Belgium . He performed a lot as a guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera .
Best known for his many recordings of music by Johann Strauss sons (more than 20 discs). He also recorded all the symphonies of Louis Spohr and Wilhelm Furtwängler , selected works by Heinrich Marschner , Carl Reinecke , Max von Schillings , Gottfried von Einem and others.
In 1981, together with the Münster Symphony Orchestra, he was awarded the Big Gold Medal of the International Mahler Society .
