John Kinloch “Jock” Anderson Emerit is a professor of classical archeology at the University of California, Berkeley .

He was educated at Trinity College (now Glenalmond College) in Scotland, and then at Oxford University at Christ Church College.
During the Second World War he served in the army. After the war, he participated in major archaeological excavations in Greece and Turkey.
In 1953, he began teaching at the University of Otago (New Zealand), where he also met his future wife Esperance. Five years later, they moved to Berkeley, where Anderson began teaching at the University of California, where he became a professor. Since 1993, retired.

The author of several books.
Widower, wife died in 2000. Three kids.
