Biography

The son of the famous surgeon Lev Moiseevich Ratner (1886-1953). Nephew of a member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party Eugenia Moiseevna Ratner .

After graduation, he entered the Moscow Power Engineering Institute . In connection with the beginning of World War II, he was mobilized among other students, drove a trolleybus in Moscow in return for drivers sent to the front. At the request of sent to the Odessa Artillery School , then to the front. Optical reconnaissance platoon commander, lieutenant. He received four injuries, including a serious injury to his right hand , which led to her contracture .

Due to a brush injury, he refused to work as an engineer and entered the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute , which he graduated in 1949 . He became interested in surgery and, for the sake of working in the specialty, began to develop an injured brush. He graduated from clinical residency with Professor A. T. Lidsky. Upon completion, he left for Komsomolsk-on-Amur , where he headed the surgical department.

In 1954 - 1962 - associate professor of the surgical department at the Chelyabinsk Medical Institute . In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he became interested in new sections of surgical medicine - thoracic and cardiovascular surgery , and organized the first thoracic surgery department in the Urals , where he operated on patients with diseases of the lungs , esophagus and heart .

In 1955 he defended his thesis on reconstructive surgery of arteries. He wrote the fundamental books “Plastic Surgery of the Blood Vessels” ( 1959 ), “Reconstructive Surgery of the Aorta and the Great Vessels” ( 1965 ), “Diseases of the Blood Vessels” ( 1969 ).

In 1962, he was elected to the post of head of the department of faculty surgery at the Kuibyshev Medical Institute, which he continued to manage for 39 years. Under his leadership, the clinic developed current problems of modern surgery: vascular reconstructive surgery, heart surgery, the creation of cardiopulmonary bypass , electrical stimulation of organs, surgery of the lungs, esophagus, stomach and biliary tract, symptomatic arterial hypertension , etc. He was buried in the city ​​cemetery in Samara .

He shared his experience with colleagues from clinics in Paris , Lyon , Marseille , Stockholm , Amsterdam , Chicago , and San Francisco .

Edited by G. L. Ratner, monographs “Extracorporeal circulation” (1965), “Hyperbaric oxygenation” (1979), and “Surgery of the aorta and arteries” (1982) were published. He is the author of books for a wide audience - “How to write a medical dissertation”, “My profession is a surgeon”, “How to keep youth”, “How to leave alive from the hospital” and four books of aphorisms.
