Webster Springs ( English Webster Springs , the official name Addison ) is a city in the state of West Virginia , USA . It is the county seat of Webster County. According to the 2010 census, 776 people lived in the city.

Geographical position
Webster Springs is located in a valley near the confluence of the Buck Fork and Elk River at the intersection of state roads 15 and 20 [1] . According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.22 km².
History
The source of salt near the modern city has long been used by Indians, it was discovered by early settlers John McKirter and John Miller. The first permanent resident of the city was Polly Arthur in 1860. The settlement was originally named Fork-Lick, but it was incorporated in 1892 as Addison. Since 1902 the city became known as Webster Springs by its mailing address (the official name has not been changed). In the city there are well-known healing springs that attract visitors. The city became a resort, hotels were opened, in 1902 a railway was built [1] .
Population
According to the 2010 census, the population of Webster Springs was 776 people (of which 47.8% men and 52.2% women), there were 363 households and 211 families. The racial composition : whites - 99.2%, African Americans - 0.1%, Native Americans - 0.1% and representatives of two or more races - 0.5% [2] .
Of the 363 households, 40.8% were married couples living together (13.5% with children under 18), in 13.2% of households women lived without their husbands, in 4.1% of households men lived without wives, 41, 9% had no family. On average, the household was 2.14 persons, and the average family size was 2.77 persons.
The population of the city in the age range was distributed as follows: 20.6% - residents under 18 years old, 3.2% - between 18 and 21 years old, 58.2% - from 21 to 65 years old and 18.0% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 45.3 years. For every 100 women, there were 91.6 men, while for 100 adult women, there were already 88.4 men of comparable age [2] .
In 2014, out of 954 able-bodied residents over 16, 436 had a job. At the same time, men had a median income of $ 34,274 per year compared to $ 22,778 of the average annual income of women. In 2014, the median income for a family was estimated at $ 38,750, for a household - at $ 26,964. The per capita income is $ 16,967. 25.9% of the total number of families and 31.4% of the total population were at the time of the census below the poverty line [2] .
