In 1953-1956 he studied at the graduate school of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1958 he successfully defended his thesis. Its basis was the study of the mineralogy of the Kryvyi Rih iron ore basin and iron minerals of the Ukrainian shield.
The results of further research in the field of geology, mineralogy and geochemistry of iron ores in the Azov-Black Sea province were subsequently summarized in the doctoral dissertation of Evgeny Fedorovich, defended in 1965. [one]
In 1957-1959 he worked as a junior researcher at the Institute of Mineral Resources of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in Simferopol under the guidance of Professor Yu. Yu. Yuri.
His further fate is closely connected with work in various scientific institutions of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He served as deputy director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1968-1969), Institute of Geochemistry and Physics of Minerals of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1969-1973), director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and head of the sedimentary ore formation department of this institute (1977-1992), director of the National Museum of Natural History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1978-2008). In 1992 he headed the State Scientific Institution “Department of Marine Geology and Sedimentary Ore Formation of the NAS of Ukraine”.
Scientific Achievements
Yevgeny Fedorovich was one of the first in the Ukrainian SSR to conduct geological explorations of both inland seas and the World Ocean. Under his leadership, the first specialized drilling vessel, Geochemist, was built, which made it possible to drill with core sampling up to 100 m at a sea depth of 30 m, which helped to study the geological structure of the Sea of Azov and the northwestern part of the Black Sea. He also became the organizer and leader of two specialized geological and geophysical expeditions of the Akademik Vernadsky research vessel (NIS) to the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, a comprehensive international Black Sea expedition to the Mikhail Lomonosov Rocket Ship, and numerous expeditions to the Black Sea to the Ikhtiander Rocket Ship , "Kiev", "Professor Vodyanitsky" and others. As a recognized expert in the field of marine geology, Evgeny Fedorovich participated in the work of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of the Seabed and Oceans (Geneva, 1971; New York, 1972; Paris, 1985, 1987). He repeatedly headed and was a member of the organizing committees of many congresses, meetings and symposia of Ukrainian and international levels, and led a seminar school on marine geology for specialists from West Africa through UNESCO (Guinea, 1987). Evgeny Fedorovich Shnyukov is the founder of a scientific school on marine geology and sedimentary ore formation - 32 candidates of science are his students. He is the author of more than 550 scientific and popular science works, has 1 patent, is the editor-in-chief of the journal “ Geology and Minerals of the World Ocean ”.
He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor (03/25/1980). [2]
