Biography
He graduated from high school, short-term pedagogical courses (1919), two courses of the pedagogical faculty of the 2nd Moscow State University, the chemical department of the physics and mathematics faculty of the 1st Moscow State University (1929). Student of Professor G. L. Stadnikov (1880-1973)
In 1920-1921 he served in the Red Army. Then he worked at the Research Institute of Physico-Chemical Institute. L. Ya. Karpova, in the coal chemistry laboratory of the Scientific and Technical Administration of the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR, taught chemistry and mathematics in high school (at first simultaneously with studies at universities).
In 1929-1930 he developed and introduced the synthesis of veronal in production.
Since 1930, he worked in the Laboratory for the Synthesis of Animal and Plant Substances (LASIN) under the Commission for the Study of the Natural Productive Forces of Russia, USSR Academy of Sciences (since 1938 - the laboratory of heterocyclic compounds of the Institute of Organic Chemistry (IOKh) of the USSR Academy of Sciences). In 1945-1985 the head. the laboratory.
Also in 1940-1960. gave lectures at the faculty of molecular and chemical physics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
In 1936, without defending a dissertation, the degree of candidate of chemical sciences was awarded. Since 1946, Doctor of Science, thesis topic "Research in the field of nicotine derivatives", and professor. Topics of research - the chemistry of pyridine, thiophene and furan.
Co-author of the textbook (together with L. M. Smorgonsky ) "Tasks and exercises in chemistry" (1934, M .: Uchpedgiz), which has passed 26 editions.
A textbook of organic chemistry, written with V. N. Verkhovsky and L. M. Smorgonsky, for the 10th grade from 1932 to 1948 survived 13 editions and was translated into 24 languages.
Editor of the collective monograph "New Trends in Thiophene Chemistry" (1976, Moscow: Nauka).
Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR . He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Badge of Honor, six medals and the badge "Excellence in Enlightenment of the USSR."
Prize winner A. M. Butlerov of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1965 for research in the field of thiophene chemistry.
He was buried at Vvedensky cemetery .
