The online store was founded in 2004 by Vladislav and Tatyana Bakalchuk [12] .

In 2012, Wildberries entered the market of Belarus [13] , in 2014 began to take orders and deliver to Kazakhstan.

According to the results of 2015, Wildberries became the most popular domestic online store among Russians [14] [15] .

In the first half of 2016, Wildberries took the first place in online sales among Russian companies (online stores and offline networks) [6] , which was associated with an increase in the number of own pick-up points [16] . Sales of the online store for the entire 2016 were estimated at 45.6 billion rubles [17] .

In September 2017, construction of a new distribution center of the company, the largest in the Russian Federation (145 thousand m2), began near Podolsk [18] [19] .

In 2018, the online store began selling food [20] . Business Model

Wildberries

The Wildberries business model is characterized as an online hypermarket , a universal format store, or a marketplace (a trading platform with goods of partner companies) [25] [26] [27] . The company directly cooperates with clothing manufacturers and official distributors [12] . They independently form the assortment of their goods in the online store and retail prices, and Wildberries earn on commission on the basis of sales. [8] . Starting March 1, 2019, Wildberries reduced the commission for partners from 38 to 19% [28] . Every day, the online store accepts 400 thousand orders [29] .

The company is privately owned by its founders - the Bakalchuk family [4] ; It does not attract investment, and development comes at the expense of own and borrowed funds [8] . As Forbes noted, Wildberries is one of the most closed companies on the Russian Internet market: the founder and CEO Tatyana Bakalchuk does not communicate with the press and does not participate in market-specific events [12] (later, in an interview with 2018, Vladislav Bakalchuk announced activation communication with the media [8] ).

There is no board of directors in the organizational structure, and the number of heads of departments and divisions is also small: the management structure is simple, its style is described as democratic [30] . The company employs 20 thousand people, of which about 500 are in the head office (managers of pick-up points and couriers are also employees of the company). The fleet consists of 150 cars (as of March 2018) [8] . Delivery in the Russian Federation takes place from its own logistics center in the Moscow region and warehouses in large cities [8] .
