Distribution and Ecology

The plant is distributed in forest and forest-steppe zones in Eastern Siberia , Western Siberia , Manchuria , Mongolia , Korea , Altai and the Far East [2] [5] [6] [7] .

Biological Description

Perennial herbaceous plant.

The basal leaves are ternary, ovoid-rhombic with 6–9 notched teeth (the final teeth are longer), densely covered with protruding long-hairs. Above the leaves, the pubescence is insignificant, below the bushy dense hairs.

Stems erect 10-30 cm tall, densely covered with protruding hairs. shoots ("mustache") are long or completely absent.

Flowers 1.5-3 cm in diameter, bisexual, collected in inflorescences in an amount of 2-7. A large leaf is often found at the base of the inflorescence. Pedicels are thick, covered with hairs deflected downward. The sepals are shorter than the petals, with fruits located horizontally or bend down. Flowering in may.

Economic Significance and Application

Food plant. Berries are used fresh and processed. In some regions, industrial collection is carried out.

Eastern wild strawberry is depicted on the 1987 postage stamp of Mongolia at a cost of 1.20 ₮ [8] .

In Culture

Used in breeding to increase the assortment of strawberries by hybridization with European varieties.
