Leyli and Majnun (symphonic poem)

“Leyli and Mejnun” is a symphonic poem by Azerbaijani composer Kara Karaev , created in 1947 .

History of creation and meaning in the history of music

The work belongs to the mature period of Karayev's work and is one of the first examples of the lyric-dramatic symphony in the music of Azerbaijan [1] . The premiere of the symphonic poem was held in Baku on September 29, 1947 at a gala evening in honor of the 800th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi (whose works are embodied by Karayev’s music), where she was performed by the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. M. Magomaev running Niyazi [2] .

Subsequently, the symphonic poem became the basis of Karaev’s ballet of the same name .
