Ashgabat Olympic Stadium ( Turkmen. Aşgabat Olimpiýa stadiony ) is a multi-purpose stadium in Ashgabat - the capital of Turkmenistan . The stadium seats 45 thousand spectators, and by this indicator it is the largest stadium in capacity in Turkmenistan and throughout Central Asia . The main stadium of Turkmenistan. The stadium is located 3 kilometers south of the city center of Ashgabat , on the Kopet Dagh etrap (urban area), between Kemal Atatürk Street and Saparmurat Turkmenbashi Avenue, on the territory of the Olympic town , specially built for the Asian Games in martial arts and competitions , which are held in 2017 was held in Ashgabat from September 17 to 27, 2017 .
The construction of the stadium began in 2013 , after the demolition of the Olympia stadium named after Saparmurat Turkmenbashi , which was built in 1999 - 2001 , and accommodated 35 thousand spectators. Ashgabat Olympic Stadium was built on the site of this demolished stadium. The construction of the stadium was completed in 2016 , but it was officially opened in 2017 . The stadium was designed by the British architectural companies AFL Architects and Arup, and Turkish company Polimeks was engaged in its construction. The investor was the Government of Turkmenistan.
The exterior of the stadium is made in white, and the northern part of the facade is made in the form of the head of the Akhal-Teke horse . Holds 45 thousand spectators. The two-tier stands of the stadium are completely covered by a roof. It was originally planned that the capacity of the stadium will be for 50 thousand spectators. Later it was decided to reduce the capacity to 48 thousand, but in the end the stadium seats 45 thousand spectators.
On September 17, 2017, the opening ceremony of the Asian Games in martial arts and indoor competitions took place at this stadium. The closing ceremony of the games also took place at this stadium, September 27th .
