Content
Background
After the release of the album Angels of Distress , the group again changed. In November 2002, they announced that they would join Sami Uusitalo as a bass player. At that time, the band planned to begin recording in early 2003 so that Spinefarm Records released a new album by the end of the year. [1]

Subject and title
The name Illusion's Play was made public in March 2004. [2]
Release and Promotion
Ultimately, the album’s release date was set for September 27, 2004. To maintain interest in the new album, the group on the eve of its release published a small sample of the song “Entwined In Misery” [3] . In April 2005, Spinefarm Records announced a deal with French-American label Season of Mist . According to the contract, Season of Mist was supposed to release the latest albums (at that time) of three groups (one of which was Shape of Despair) in North America in August 2005 [4] .
