When her husband was appointed conductor at the Aachen Theater, she began taking singing lessons. Herbert von Karajan , then working in Aachen, contributed to her debut as one of the flower maidens in Parsifal (1941). Then she performed in Duisburg (1942), Prague (1944).

In 1946, Elizabeth Grummer became a member of the ensemble of the Berlin City Opera (later - German Opera). In the 1950s-1960s, she was internationally successful in lyrical parts of the predominantly German repertoire ( Mozart , Wagner , Strauss ). In 1951, the singer performed in the London Theater Covent Garden in the party of Eve in the "Nuremberg Mastersinger" . In 1953–54, Grümmer played the Donna Anne roles in Don Juan and Agatha in the Freestyle Arrow directed by Wilhelm Furtwängler at the Salzburg Festival . Since 1965, Grummer was a professor at the Berlin Higher School of Music (today the Faculty of Music, Berlin University of the Arts), and also taught in Paris and Lucerne. The last performance of the singer was held on January 1, 1972 in the Marshalls party in the "Rose Caveman" .

Ratings

“Whoever did not know Elizabeth Grummer, and above all, never heard her phenomenal voice, he cannot understand how closely this singer is connected with the very concept of artistic and human sincerity. <...> Elizabeth Grummer knew how to influence the listener so openly, so directly and emotionally, how no one could manage. With incredible energy, she developed qualities in herself that are not achievable for any of her colleagues: the beauty of her voice combined with the absolute distinctness of the word. <...> And since each word came from her mouth in a clear, easily understandable form, the singer managed to convince her listeners, bringing to them such different meanings of the many things of her repertoire, she managed to really enthrall her audience. In addition, she was greatly helped by what she (not to mention the real acting “magnetism”) learned as an actress in the first eight years of her stage work - purity of vowels. ”( [1] )
