Creation History

Ammunition SP-3 appeared as a result of a series of works on the modernization of the cartridge SP-2 for a double-shot pistol MSP [2] . The main purpose of modernization was to mislead regarding the very use of special weapons. To do this, in a new silent munition, a special bullet was replaced with a standard bullet from the Soviet 7.62 × 39 mm machine gun cartridge of the 1943 model [2] . Despite all efforts, the bullet of the created cartridge after the shot retained the signs of firing from special weapons, since the barrel of the machine gun left on it traces of four rifling, and the gun - six [2] .

Design Features

The bimetallic sleeve of the SP-3 cartridge is inherited from the SP-2 cartridge [1] and is equipped with a standard automatic bullet of 7.62 × 39 mm caliber [2] . As a propellant charge, the porous pyroxylin powder composition of the P-125 grade (0.12 grams) was chosen [1] . The igniter capsule is fixed in the bottom of the sleeve by reinforced annular compression [2] . The joints of the bullet / sleeve and sleeve / capsule are varnished with Bordeaux color [2] .

To increase the initial velocity of the bullet, a two-element telescopic pallet of the original design is placed inside the sleeve [2] . When fired, acting as a piston, the pan pushes the bullet out and wedges in the neck of the cartridge case, locking powder gases and providing noiseless, flameless and smokeless firing. Moreover, the length of the sleeve increases from 35 to 55 mm, which greatly complicates the development of automatic weapons for this munition [1] . The residual pressure of the powder gases in the liner after the shot is about 400-600 kgf / cm 2 [6] .
