Biography
Wilhelm Schimper was born on January 12, 1808 in Dossenheim. In 1832 he graduated from the University of Strasbourg and remained there as a teacher of geology and mineralogy (since 1862 he held the position of professor), at the same time since 1835 he worked in the Strasbourg Museum of Natural History, while in 1966 he was elected director. Wilhelm Philip Schimper was known not only as a botanist, but also as a geographer and traveler. During his long and fruitful life, he made numerous trips around Europe.
Wilhelm Schimper died on March 20, 1880 in Strasbourg.
