The canton was formed as a result of the 2015 reform [1] .
Canton Composition since March 22, 2015
The canton comprises communes (population according to the National Institute of Statistics for 2014 ):
- Vernon (23,951 people)
- Ghani (3094 people)
- Giverny (514 people)
- Sainte-Genevieve-le-Gani (672 people)
Policy
In the 2017 presidential election, residents of the canton gave Emmanuel Macron 24.8% of the votes in the 1st round against 20.8% from Marine Le Pen , 20.1% from François Fillon and 19.3% from Jean-Luc Melenchon ; in the 2nd round, the canton was defeated by Macron, who received 67.1% of the vote. (2012 Round 1: Nicolas Sarkozy - 28.8%, Francois Hollande - 27.5%, Marine Le Pen - 18.6%; Round 2: Sarkozy - 52.0%. 2007 Round 1: Sarkozy - 33.0%, Segolene Royal - 23.4%; Round 2: Sarkozy - 57.6%).
Since 2015, Catherine Delalande and the Secretary of State, the former President of the Council of the Department Ayr and the former mayor of the city Vernon Sébastien Lecornu (both Republicans ) represent the canton in the Council of the Department of Ayr .
