Baron Bridges

Baron Bridges of Hadley in Surrey and St. Nicholas in Wade in Kent is an ancestral title in the United Kingdom Peer system . It was created on February 4, 1957 for the famous statesman Sir Edward Bridges (1892-1969). He served as Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers (1938–1946) and Head of the Civil Service (1945–1956). As of 2010, the title holder was his son, Thomas Edward Bridges, 2nd Baron Bridges (born 1927 ), who succeeded his father in 1969 . Lord Bridges was the British ambassador to Italy ( 1983 - 1987 ). Lord Bridges is one of the ninety-two elected hereditary peers who remained in the House of Lords after the adoption of the House of Lords Act of 1999 , sitting on the bench of independent deputies.

The first baron was the son of poet laureate Robert Seymour Bridges (1844-1930). The grandson of 1st Baron James George Robert Bridges (born 1970), became a life peer as Baron Bridges of Hadley in May 2015 .
