Aloysius Vincent

Aloysius Vincent ( born Aloysius Vincent ; June 14, 1928 - February 25, 2015 ) is an Indian cameraman and director. During his career, he was an operator of about 80 and director of 30 films, most of which were in Malayalam , and the rest in Telugu , Hindi and Tamil . Filmfare Award Winner for Best Cinematography.

Biography

Born June 14, 1928 in Calicut [1] , at that time part of the Madras Presidency . At the age of 20, he came to Madras and got a job as an assistant operator at [2] . The cameraman first got a in the Telugu film 1953, where he helped P.N. Selvaraj. In it, he was spotted by actress . She introduced him to her husband, the filmmaker , who took Vincent to his next film, . Then came in Malayalam, where Vincent used the natural colors of the scenery, although the film was shot in black and white [3] .

Vincent's first Tamil film was with in a dual role. The next film, became a box office hit and marked the beginning of a fruitful duet with director . They worked together until the release of the romantic comedy (1964), after which Vincent went into "free swimming" [4] .

In the same year, he made his directorial debut with the film , known as the first thriller in Malayalam [5] . In total, Vincent made about 30 films during his directorial career. Among them are Murrapennu (1965), Nagarame Nandi (1967), Asuravithu (1968) and Thulabharam (1969). Murrapennu won the National Film Award as the third best film in Malayalam [6] , Thulabharam as the second best film [7] , and Nadhi (1969) brought Vincent the Kerala Film Award [8] . His most recent directorial works include (1985) and (1986).

As a cameraman, Vincent dominated the Tamil cinema of the 1950s and was in demand in the Telugu and Hindi film industries [4] . His works in South Indian languages ​​include Nenjil Or Aalayam (1961), Then Nilavu (1961), Sumaithaangi (1962), Enga Veettu Pillai (1965), Bhaktha Prahlada (1967), Adimai Penn (1969), Vasantha Maligai ( 1973), Adavi Ramudu (1977), Alludugaru (1990), Allari Priyudu (1993), Major Chandrakanth (1993), Bobbili Simham (1994). In Bollywood, he was the operator of such films as Dil Ek Mandir (1963), Meherban (1967), Madhavi (1970), Bandish (1981) and Mahaan (1982). And the painting earned him the Filmfare Award for best cinematography in 1975 [1] [9] . The last film in which he took part was Telugu-speaking Annamayya (1997).

A. Vincent died in Chennai on February 25, 2015 after a long illness. He left his wife Marguerite, the operator sons - and Ajayan Vincent, and the daughters of Sumitra and Snezhalat [10] .
