Finalist Alberta ( Valerie Sweeting )
3rd place Manitoba ( Chelsea Carey )

The winner received the right to represent Canada (as the “Team of Canada”; English Team Canada ) at the 2014 World Championships , which took place in March 2014 in St. John ( Canada ), and also to compete under this name at the next Canadian Championship in 2015.

The tournament was attended by 12 teams: 11 teams representing the provinces and territories of Canada , and the winning team of the previous championship in 2013 (as the “Canadian team”).

The “team of Canada” became the champion (9th time in the history of the championships) (for the team led by skip Rachel Homan , it was the 2nd victory, and in a row; Homan became the youngest skip ever to win twice in a row in the history of the championship ; the team in the championship won all 13 matches), having won in the final against the team representing the province of Alberta (skip Valerie Sweeting ) [2] . The bronze medal was won by the team representing the province of Manitoba (Skip to Chelsea Carey ), who won the team from Saskatchewan (skip Stephanie Lawton ) in the match for 3rd place [3] .

Jennifer Jones’s team would not be able to take part in the championship (even if she participated in the championship of her Manitoba province and won it), because at that time she was preparing as the Canadian team to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics , which took place at the end of February 2014 in Sochi ( Russia ).

Competition Format

At the first, group stage, 12 teams play among themselves in a circular system in one circle. The team that took the last place is sent to the pre-qualification tournament next year. The four best teams of the group stage go to the second stage, playoffs , where they play according to the Page system : the two best teams according to the results of the group round hold a match for a direct hit in the finals (playoffs-1). The 3rd and 4th teams play for reaching the semifinals (playoffs-2). In the semifinals, there is a loser in the first match and a winner in the second. In the finals, gold awards are disputed by the winners of the playoffs and semifinals. Bronze medals have been played (since 2010) by losers in the semifinals and in the playoffs-2.
