Family

Born on May 17 ( May 29 ), 1897 in Zakhupotskaya Sloboda (now Ryazhsky district , Ryazan region ), father - honorary citizen , college registrar Feodor Ivanovich Rusakov (1868, Yelshanka - 1942, Leningrad ), mother - Nadezhda Konstantinovna Rusakova, nee Platonova (1873, Baranivka - 1942, Leningrad).

Leonid Fedorovich had two brothers (Mikhail, born in 1898 and Veniamin, born in 1901) and two sisters (Zinaida, born in 1894 and Elena, born in 1900).

In 1925, Leonid Fedorovich married Alexandra Alekseevna Shitikova (1899, St. Petersburg - 1964, Moscow). In this marriage, they had two sons: Eugene (born 1929) and Boris (born 1933).

Education

From August 20, 1907 to June 6, 1913 he studied at the Morshansky Real School .

In 1919 he graduated, and in 1922 he defended his thesis on the theme “The influence of meteorological conditions on the development of rust of bread” at the All-Russian Agricultural Institute at the General Agronomy Faculty and received the title of Scientific Agronomist.

He took repeated courses for phytopathologists in Leningrad .

December 3, 1935 at the All-Union Agricultural Academy of Sciences received the degree of candidate of agricultural sciences without defending a dissertation.

December 1, 1947 defended his doctoral dissertation at the TSHA Scientific Council on the topic "Diseases of grain crops in connection with the problem of sorting." The opponents were P. N. Konstantinov and M. S. Dunin . On January 15, 1949, by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission, Leonid Fedorovich was awarded the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (Ministry of Agriculture No. 00029). At the time of defense, the scientific and practical experience was 29 years.

Work

1910s

In 1918, he worked as a temporary trainee at the Stone-Steppe Experimental Station (now Kamennaya Steppe , Voronezh Region ). First - in field cultivation and agricultural meteorology, and since 1919 - in phytopathology.
In 1919 - 1921 he worked as a temporary and then annual intern at the Voronezh STAZRA ( Voronezh ). Since 1920, he completely switched to phytopathology.

1920s

Since 1921 he worked in Leningrad, in the Agricultural Scientific Committee (later - SEAA , and even later (1929) - VIZR ) in the Department of Mycology and Phytopathology . In 1921 - 1923 - as a technician, in 1923 - 1926 - as a laboratory assistant, in 1926 - as a junior assistant, in 1926 - 1928 - as a senior assistant, in 1928 - 1933 - as a scientific specialist ( Leningrad ). He took part in business trips and expeditions: in the Voronezh region, in the Ukrainian SSR , to the Far East , where he participated in a conference on the study of the productive forces of the Far East (1925, 1926), in the North Caucasus (1927), in Western Siberia and the Urals (1923) , in the North Caucasus (annually since 1929). The results of 1922-1929 were published in 38 published works, 2 of which were published abroad.
In 1927, he proposed a modified Parker and Melchers scale for assessing plant damage with brown rust on leaves, which was later called the Rusakov scale .
Since 1929, he worked as a phytopathologist for varietal testing of grain crops and for selection for resistance to rust and smut types: in 1929-1932 he was a consultant to the VIR public network and headed the VIZR rust department, being in 1931 and 1932 a scientific director of the air expedition to combat rust during dusting from an airplane, conducting field experiments and experiments in a growing house to identify harm from rust of bread, etc.

1930s

Since 1933, he completely moved from VIZR to VIR, assumed leadership of the varietal sustainability group of the VIR public network, and since 1937 he led the entomo-phytopathological group of the State Commission for Varietal Testing of Grain Crops under the USSR Ministry of Agriculture .
In 1929 - 1935 , together with Professor Talanov V.V. , he simultaneously participated in the breeding work carried out by the VIR State Consortium for the selection of winter and spring wheat varieties for resistance to rust and smut. He participated in the cultivation of varieties of winter wheat Krasnodarka and Voroshilovka, as well as varieties of spring wheat Pionerka.
In 1935 he had 62 scientific works.
In the VIR system, and since 1937 - in the State Commission for Varietal Testing of Grain Crops under the Ministry of Health of the USSR, he directed the phytopathological work to identify varietal resistance to diseases in a number of crops - cereal breads, legumes, oilseeds and herbs.
In 1937 - 1939 he worked as a senior phytopathologist, and since 1939 - the head of the entomological-phytopathological group in the State Commission for Varietal Testing of Grain Crops ( Moscow ).

1940s

Since 1945 he taught at the Moscow Artists Academy named after K. A. Timiryazev .
In 1947, he had 94 scientific works.

Military Service

From July 23 to August 5, 1942 he served as a private in the Red Army.

Death

He died on March 8, 1966 . He was buried in Moscow at the Golovinsky cemetery .
