Biography
Born in the family of teacher Auguste Chamberlain. He studied at the Lyceum in Lons-le-Saunier , and then at Rollin College in Paris . In 1871, he withstood the entrance competition to two educational institutions at once - the Polytechnic School and the Higher Normal School , eventually making a choice in favor of the latter. After its completion in 1874-1875. taught at the Lyceum in Nimes . In 1875 he returned to his alma mater as an assistant to Louis Pasteur and subsequently for many years collaborated with him, including as the head of research in the private laboratory of Pasteur (1879-1888). With the creation of the Pasteur Institute (1888), he took the post of deputy director (until 1904).

Scientific work
