In GSM networks, the absolute channel number ( English absolute radio-frequency channel number , ARFCN ) is a pair of frequencies used by mobile operators to receive and transmit information. The list of channel numbers (codes) is defined in the GSM specification 45.005 [1] (section 2). The separation of the frequency-dependent component occurs according to the FDMA ( frequency-division multiple access ) scheme, and the time -dependent component - according to the TDMA ( time-division multiple access) scheme ) To prevent channel overflow, a logical channel system is used that uses a control channel ( BCCH - Broadcast Control Channel ), the principles of which are described in the GSM specification 05.03 [2] .
In UMTS networks for 3G and 4G systems, ARFCN has been replaced by a simpler UARFCN having a direct frequency dependence on the channel number.
ARFCN Table for Public GSM Systems
This table presents the calculated frequency data for reception and transmission determined by ARFCN for various carrier frequencies. Data corresponds only to GSM public systems, while other systems using ARFCN (for example TETRA ) may have different characteristics.
