During his reign in Assyria , the period of unrest and civil war ended; an energetic military leader Tiglathpalasar III came to power. Last in the 3rd year of the reign of Nabonassar, in the month of tashrit (September - October) 745 BC. e. he moved his troops to Babylonia and went all the way to the Persian Gulf , smashing the Chaldean tribes and expelling many prisoners to Assyria. It is possible that Nabonassar himself called on the Assyrians to help in the fight against the Chaldeans and the Elamites .

The later tradition that Tiglathpalasar fought the battle of Borsippos with Nabonasar is not confirmed by early cuneiform texts. The Assyrians did not cause any damage to the Babylonian cities, the Assyrian king in every possible way emphasized his role as their protector and patron. As a result of this campaign, Tiglathpalasar became overlord of the Babylonian king and took the title "King of Sumer and Akkad . "

The fifth year of the reign of Nabonassar ( 743 BC ) dates back to the throne of Elam king Humpanikash. In 734 BC e. Nabonassar became seriously ill and died after a 14-year reign.

According to Beros and several other authors, a calendar reform was carried out under Nabonassar. Associated with the name of Nabonassara is the Era of Nabonassara; It was from his first year of reign that the ancient Greek astronomer and scientist Claudius Ptolemy began his era (that is, the starting point of reference for chronological calculations), since he knew astronomical observations only from the reign of this king. This era began on February 26 (with the beginning of the year 1 Thoth of the ancient Egyptian calendar ) at 12 noon 747 BC e. [2] .
