History
During the Western Han Empire, Yuzhi County (郁 郅 县) was created. During the Eastern Han Empire, nomads invaded here, and administrative structures were liquidated.
In the era of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, these lands became part of the Western Wei state, and Pengyang County (彭阳县) was created here. After the formation of the Sui Empire, Pengyang County was renamed to Pengyuan (彭 原 县) in 598. In the Tang Empire, Pengyuan County was subordinated to the Ningzhou (宁 州) province in 627. In the era of the Five Dynasties during the Liang state, the county became part of the Qingzhou region (庆州). During the empire of Song, the Qingzhou region was transformed in 1125 into the Qingyang government (庆阳 府). During the Mongol Empire, the Yuan County was disbanded in 1270, and the land came under the direct control of the governing authorities.
During the Ming Empire, Anhua County (安化县) was created in 1369. After the Xinhai Revolution , Anhua County was renamed Qingyang (庆阳县) in 1913. In 1929, Qingyang County authorities moved to Xifengzhen Village.
In November 1935, communist troops came to these lands, and the parallel existence of communist and Kuomintang power structures began.
In 1949, the Qingyang Special District (庆阳 专区) was formed, whose authorities were located in these places. The county-level Xifeng city was created in 1950, but in May it was retrained as a district-level city subordinate to Qingyang County. In 1954, a district-level city was transformed into a district.
In 1955, Qingyang Special District was annexed to Pingliang Special Region (平凉 专区), and Xifeng District was transformed into a settlement. In 1962, the Qingyang Special District was recreated, and in 1970, the Qingyang Special District was renamed Qingyang County.
In May 1985, by the decision of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Xifeng City County was allocated from Qingyang County.
In 2002, Qingyang County was transformed into an urban district; Xifeng City County became the Xifeng District in its composition.
