Player Career

He played in the positions of light forward and attacking defender . In 1986 he was selected for the NBA Draft under the general 66th number by the Houston Rockets team. In total, he played 8 seasons in the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs , Houston Rockets , New York Knicks and Orlando Magic clubs, with which he reached the 1995 NBA Finals. Being a typical substitute player, he had a good long-distance throw and was famous for his ability to play defense. In parallel, he performed in Italian, Greek, Lithuanian clubs, where he became the winner of the Euroleague as part of Kaunas Zalgiris . He completed his sports career in the Permian “ Ural-Great ”, and finally won the title of champion of Russia.

Triple double

The most memorable moment in Bowie's career occurred on March 9, 1996 in a game against the Detroit Pistons . In that match, Magic was leading with a big advantage when, within seconds before the end of playing time, Bowie discovered that he had 20 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Anthony was well aware that another opportunity for a bench player to make a triple-double might not be presented. Therefore, having made his 10th selection 4 seconds before the end of playing time, Bowie immediately took time out to the fury of team coach Brian Hill, who, realizing his player's intentions, pointedly left the bench, leaving Bowie to manage the remaining time [1 ] .

Detroit Pistons coach Doug Collins , who did want to take his players to the locker room, but was ordered to just stand at the sideline and not interfere with the opponent to give the 10th assists, was enraged by this unsportsmanlike behavior. After that, Bowie received the ball, gave it to David Vaughn, who was open under the ring, who scored the ball from above without resistance from the opponents, providing the partner with the 10th assist. After that, Bowie tried to apologize to his rival coach, but Doug Collins refused to talk to him and silently led his team to the premiere. At the post-match press conference, the Orlando Magic coach openly called his player’s shameful behavior. Bowie, however, was quite pleased with his “achievement.”

Today this case is often mentioned in the case when the player intentionally tries to correct his game statistics. Among such cases, we can mention an episode in which Cleveland Cavaliers defender Ricky Davis tried in the last seconds of the match to throw at his own ring to pick up the 10th selection [2] . Or an attempt by Atlanta Hawks player Bob Sura to deliberately miss the opponent's ring to also pick up the 10th time [3] . In both of these cases, the triple-doubles were canceled by the league, as contrary to the spirit of the rules.
