Biography
Nikolai Ivanovich was born on April 27, 1909 in the village of Baranovka of the Volsky district of the Saratov province. Russian. In the Red Army since January 1929. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1931. Social status and origin - a worker from the peasants [1]

Prewar Biography
He graduated from 7 classes of a rural school. In January 1929 he entered the Joint Military School of Pilots and Aircraft Mechanics in the city of Volsk. Since November 1929 he studied at the 3rd Military School of Pilots and Letnabs in Orenburg. Upon graduation, he was sent as a junior pilot to the 7th separate fighter aviation squadron in the city of Vitebsk of the Belarusian Military District. Grew up to the flight commander. In June 1933, he was transferred to the same position in the 106th air squadron , based in Smolensk. In March 1936 he was appointed commander of the 17th fighter aviation squadron in Bobruisk. In March 1937 he was seconded to the School of Aerobatics and Aerial Shooting in Odessa, after which in August 1937 he was sent as an inspector for piloting technology to the 142nd Fighter Aviation Brigade of the Belarusian Special Military District. Since July 1938 - in the same position in the 56th Fighter Aviation Brigade. In February 1940, Captain Akulin was appointed commander of the 33rd Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Air Force of the Belarusian Special Military District in Pruzhany .
During World War II
The beginning of World War II was met in the same position by the commander of the 33rd Fighter Aviation Regiment at the airport in Pruzhany . With the beginning of the formation at the end of June 1941 of the 6th air defense fighter corps, the regiment became part of it. The regiment covered Moscow from the attack of an air enemy. July 22, 1941 a regiment in the corps participated in repulsing a massive air raid by the enemy on the capital. The regiment under the command of Akulin took part:
- in the Battle of Moscow ,
- as part of the 10th mixed aviation division of the Western Front, he carried out cover for front troops during defensive battles near Moscow
- as part of the 142nd Fighter Aviation Division of Air Defense - military-industrial facilities of the city of Gorky,
- on the North-Western Front he participated in the Demyan offensive operation ;
- as part of the 106th Air Defense Fighter Division, it covered military installations in the vicinity of Art. Bogo.
During the command of Lieutenant Colonel Akulin, the 33rd Fighter Aviation Regiment made 4,007 sorties; 95 airplanes were destroyed in air battles and during ground attack flights.
In November 1942 he was appointed senior inspector-pilot for aerial combat of the Directorate of Fighter Aviation of the Main Directorate of Combat Training of Frontline Aviation. Since June 1943, he was deputy flight commander of the 126th Aviation Division , covering oil fields and industrial facilities in Grozny. Between August 19 and September 7, 1943, he temporarily commanded this division. In April 1944, he was appointed commander of the 127th Air Defense Fighter Division , which provided cover for Donbass objects from enemy aircraft raids. In August 1944, he was transferred as commander of the 126th Air Defense Fighter Division , covering the cities of Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye, and in January-February 1945 he performed a special state task to ensure the Crimean Conference of the Heads of the Three Powers - the USSR, the USA and Great Britain . In total, during the war years Akulin personally carried out 78 sorties.
After the war
After the war, Colonel Akulin continued to command the 126th Air Defense Fighter Division , and relocated it to Batumi. In September 1946, he studied at the Advanced Training Course for commanders and chiefs of staff of air divisions at the Military Academy of the command and navigator of the Red Army Air Force.

- In September 1947, he was appointed commander of the 144th Air Defense Fighter Division as part of the 19th Air Defense Air Fighter Army .
- In August 1948, he was deputy commander of the 3rd Air Defense Fighter Corps (from February 1949, the 13th Air Defense Fighter Corps );
- In April 1950, he was the head of the Red Banner Training Center for blind, night training and combat use of fighter aircraft of the country's Air Defense Forces.
- Since July 1951 - assistant commander of the 25th Air Defense Fighter Army ,
- Since December - Commissioner of the USSR Ministry of War on the organization of air defense of state borders in Romania.
- In January 1954 he was sent to study at the Higher Military Academy. K.E. Voroshilova.
- After completing his studies in November 1955, he was appointed deputy chief of staff of the country's air defense troops for combat command, the duty general of the Central Command.
- In July 1962, he was transferred to the reserve.
He died on January 25, 1991.
