Hans Christiansen ( German: Hans Christiansen ; March 6, 1866 , Flensburg - January 5, 1945 , Wiesbaden) is a German modernist artist. In the 1920s, he was recognized as an artist-decorator. His work is diverse and includes fine art, architecture, light experiments, elements of the design of the house in which he lived, posters, illustrations of magazines.

Biography
Hans Christiansen was born on March 6, 1866 in Flensburg. In his youth, he worked as an apprentice artist, then as a decorator in Hamburg, where he was engaged in interior decoration of the store.
In 1888, he attended the Higher School of Applied Arts (Kunstgewerbeschule München) in Munich . In 1892 he published his work, and in 1883 he visited Chicago. Here he was impressed by the glass works of Louis Tiffany .
In 1895, Christiansen quit his job and went to study at the Julian Academy in Paris.
Upon graduation in 1899, he joined a group of artists in Darmstadt . During this time, he designed many Art Nouveau style jewelry. Along with painting, Hans Christiansen worked with objects of decorative art.
Since 1902, he worked as an artist in Paris, then collaborated with the art and literary magazine Jugend . Since 1911 he taught at the art school in Wiesbaden .
Since 1914, the artist returned to painting. Since 1918, portraits have been his main works in painting.
In the 1920s, Christiansen gained recognition as a decorator. In this area, his work included patterned wallpaper, tapestries, ceramics, patterns for embroidery, frescoes and ceiling paintings, glass windows decorated with bright colors. Recent works reflect the influence on the artist of Japanese art and Toulouse-Lautrec .
Since he was married to a Jewess, a ban was imposed on his paintings in the Third Reich.
He died on January 5, 1945 in Wiesbaden. Christiansen's artistic and graphic work had a significant impact on the art of his time. Hans Christiansen worked a lot to decorate his house, which he called "Villa Rose", since the rose served as the main item to decorate all the rooms of the house and its windows. His house, Villa Rose, was destroyed during World War II, and many of his artworks were lost.
