Starion (real name - Stavrion) Martianianovich Khodetsky ( February 21, 1821 , Simferopol, Taurida Province, Russian Empire - February 10, 1887 , Kiev, Kiev Province, Russian Empire ) - Russian biologist , livestock breeder and editor , professor and dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Imperial University of St. Vladimir Acting State Counselor (1870).

Biography
Starion Khodetsky was born on February 21, 1821 in Simferopol. He graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of the Philosophy Department of the Imperial University of St. Petersburg , which he graduated in 1842.
After graduating from a university course, he was sent for an internship abroad (1842-1844). He studied agriculture theoretically and practically at the Hohenheim Agricultural Institute , and then examined many agronomic educational institutions, many private and state estates, factories and plants in Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland. He was assigned to the service with the rights of a university adjunct and taught public courses for 7 years (1844-1851) in Kursk, Voronezh, Orel, Tambov, Novocherkassk and Kharkov. He defended a dissertation at Kharkov University (1846) for a master's degree in agriculture and forestry [1] .
In 1851 he moved to Kiev and devoted the rest of his life to this city. He was appointed to the Kiev Imperial University of St. Vladimir Adjunct (1851), an extraordinary professor (1852), an ordinary professor (1854-1878) in the Department of Agriculture and Forestry. At the University, he arranged an agronomy office with rather rich collections. Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (1874-1877).
Since 1878 - retired.
Starion Khodetsky died on February 10, 1887 in Kiev, not having lived only 11 days before his 66th birthday.
Scientific work
The main scientific works are devoted to crop production and animal husbandry. Starion Martinianovic is the author of over 40 scientific papers, as well as the first textbooks on zoology and botany, as a result of which biology was taught at the school.
- 1847 - Developed the Russian classification of wool.
- He gave recommendations on the selection and selection of manufacturers.
- He proved the possibility of planting forests in the steppes.
- He studied the methods of breeding farm animals.
- He substantiated the provisions on the influence of living conditions on the development of the animal organism.
