History

Botswana Volleyball Federation was established in 1979 . Since 1988 - member of the FIVB .

The first official tournament of the women's volleyball team of Botswana was the 1993 African Championship , held in the capital of Nigeria, Lagos . At the tournament, the Botswana volleyball players played 5 matches and lost in all, taking the last (10th) place. In subsequent years, the Botswana team took part in six more continental championships . The best result was 5th place in 2009 . In 2011 and 2015, the national team of Botswana qualified for the African Games from its geographical area of South Africa , but did not get prize-winners in the competitions themselves.

Four times, the Botswana team participated in the qualifying tournaments of the World Championships , and in January 2016, for the first time, it also entered the Olympic African qualification tournament , but it still has not been able to win tickets to the largest international volleyball competitions. Only at the beginning of 2014, Botswana's volleyball players were closest to getting into the world championship when they confidently reached the final stage of qualification , having won 8 “dry” victories at the previous stages of selection, but in the final they became only 4 in their group.
