Biography
Karl Voith was born on October 3, 1831 in Amberg. In 1855, he was educated at the Universities of Munich , Würzburg and Göttingen . From 1856 to 1908 he worked at the Institute of Physiology at the University of Munich, while in 1860 he served as professor of physiology and director of the physiological cabinet.
Karl Voith died on January 31, 1908 in Munich.
Scientific Works
The main scientific works are devoted to the study of metabolism and the development of human nutrition standards.
- 1862 - Designed a respiratory apparatus for studying gas exchange and conducted the first quantitative study of the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the body of an animal
- One of the first began to study the chemical transformations that undergo nutrients in the body.
- Together with M.I. Pettenkofer, for the first time, he developed hygienic norms of nutrition .
- Created the doctrine of nutrition.
