Elamite Invasion

Toward the end of the reign, apparently, in the 6th year of the reign of Kashtiliash (c. 1236 BC), the Elamite king Untash-Napirisht made a devastating raid on Babylonia . Until then, Kashtiliash peacefully ruled not only the whole of Mesopotamia , but also, probably, vast areas along Diyala and Adem . Here in the foothills of Padan , he gave the estate to the Hurrian nobleman Agabtah , who fled from the Mitanni destroyed by the Assyrians , but his gift certificate, along with some other trophies, went to one of the Elamite conquerors and was taken to Susa . The Elamites confined themselves to robbery in Babylonia and, not trying to keep the captured lands, returned to their homeland.

Assyrian invasion

In the 8th year, after the Elamites, the Assyrian king Tukulti-Ninurta I fell upon Babylonia . In the battle that took place, the Assyrians won a decisive victory, Kashtiliash was captured and taken to Ashur in chains. After this, Tukulti-Ninurta took Babylon , destroyed its walls and ordered to put to execution and to enslave many Babylonians and Kassites . The treasury of the temple of Esagil was plundered, and the statue of the god Marduk was sent to Assyria . After which Tukulti-Ninurta took the title “king of the four cardinal points”, “king of Sumer and Akkad ” and “king of Kar-Duniyash” and ruled both Upper and Lower Mesopotamia for 7 years (c. 1231 - 1224 BC) until the nobility of Babylonia rebelled and put Adad-noise-utsur , the son of Kashtiliash on the throne of his father. The campaign against Babylon and the decisive victory of Tukulti-Ninurta over the king of the Kassites is described in the so-called epic about Tukulti-Ninurta:

“I moved forward to Kashtiliash, the king of Kar Duniyash, to fight (with him). I defeated his army, defeated his soldiers. In the middle of this battle, I grabbed Kashtiliash, the king of the Kassites, trampled his royal neck with his feet, as if it were a footrest. I brought him chained, captive before his (face) Ashur , my lord. "I became the master of the whole country of Sumer and Akkad , approved the border of my country at the Lower Sea , at sunrise."

The Babylonian royal list does not mention Tukulti-Ninurth I as the ruler of Babylon, but instead lists, following Kashtiliash IV and before Adad-noise-utzur , three kings bearing the Kassite names - Ellil-nadine-shumi , Kadashman-Harbe II , Adad-noise -iddina . Apparently they were all only the governors of the Assyrian king.

From the time of the reign of Kashtiliash IV, two royal inscriptions on land donations, about 170 economic texts, among other things, from Dur Kurigalsu and Ur , and 4 consecutive texts were preserved.

Kashtiliash IV rules 8 years.
