The Gini Award for Best Actress was awarded by the Canadian Film and Television Academy. The award was presented from 1980 to 2012 [1] .
From 1980 to 1983, only Canadian actresses could receive the Gini Award for Best Actress. Foreign actresses who played in Canadian films could receive a special award for the Best Foreign Actor / Actress. After 1983, the Best Foreign Actor / Actress Award was eliminated and Canadian and foreign actresses received a general award for the best female role.
