Half Years

Six months are used to divide the reporting year into two parts. For cases when the reporting (business) year coincides with the calendar:

Half yearQuartersMonthsstart dateexpiration dateNumber of calendar days
II and IIJanuary , February , March , April , May , June1st of January30 June181 (or 182 in leap years )
IIIII and IVJuly , August , September , October , November , DecemberJuly 1December, 31st184

In the USSR, in certain sectors of the national economy, the business year did not coincide with the calendar year and began on October 1. Accordingly, the first economic half-year was the period “October - March”, and the second - “April - September”.

Interesting Facts

  • Due to the different number of days in the months, the number of days in half-years varies from 181 to 184, which is inconvenient for accounting and economic analysis. In a number of stable calendar projects, this problem has been resolved. So, for example, in the Armelin calendar and in the Symmetric calendar, the half-year duration is the same and amounts to 182 days, and in the Hilbourd calendar each half-year consists of 180 days.
