Mail Development

The first French post offices opened in Morocco in 1862 [2] .

In connection with the declaration by France of a protectorate over Morocco in 1912, a French colonial post was organized there. The functioning of the latter on the territory of French Morocco continued until in 1956 an independent state, the Kingdom of Morocco , was proclaimed. [2]

Stamp Issues

First Marks

On January 1, 1891, France’s postage stamps with an overprint of face value in Spanish (Moroccan) currency were issued specifically for post offices in Morocco [1] [2] . The first series included postal miniatures , the new price of which, according to the overprint, was 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 centimo and 1 peseta . The original drawing of the Peace and Trade stamps belonged to the French artist Jules-Auguste Sage ( French: Jules-Auguste Sage ), hence the name of this - . The engraver of the stamps was Louis-Eugene Mouchon .
