Biography

Tostao started playing at the America Mineiro club, where he got thanks to the team's coach, Orlando Andrade. He, at one time, played with his father Eduardo in the club “ Itai Vilela ”. Subsequently, Tostao recalled: “I owe him a lot. If not for him, I would not have become a footballer. And I was small in stature, and the strength was not enough. But he always said that the age of football players - athletes and security officials is coming to an end, that power will be replaced by intelligence, multiplied by cunning and dexterity. ”

At the age of 15, Tostao began to play for the main team. In the same year he was included in the junior national team. In its composition in 1963, he defeated the first national team of Brazil , scoring both goals of his team. After this success, Tostao became one of the main rising stars of Brazilian football. [6]

Eye Injury

In 1968, in a Brazil Cup match with Corinthians , Tostao was injured in his left eye . Kicking the ball, the player of the opposing team Ditao hit Eduardo in the left eye. He had a retinal detachment.
