Biography

Born in a mixed family: mother is Spanish, father is Austrian. He began studying piano music, but while still participating in the school choir he became interested in vocals, deciding to become a professional singer. Studied in Milan with Mercedes Llopart . The debut on the opera stage took place in 1956 at the Cairo Real Theater in the part of the Duke of Mantua (Verdi's Rigoletto ). He has performed at many theaters in the world, such as: National Theater of San Carlos , Covent Garden , La Scala , Chicago Lyric Opera , Metropolitan Opera , Colon , Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater . He was engaged in teaching at first in Rome , and later became a professor at the Madrid Conservatory . Among the students are Carlos Marin , Marios Frangoulis , Giuseppe Filianoti and others.
