Biography
Valery Kuzmin began playing hockey in 1953 in the Moscow team Metrostroy [2] . According to some reports, in 1955-1957 he played for the Lokomotiv team (Moscow) [2] , although Kuzmin himself denied this in an interview, and said that in those years he played only for the Metrostroy team [3] .
In 1958-1972, Valery Kuzmin played for the Spartak team (Moscow) , scoring 38 goals in 386 matches of the USSR Championship [4] (according to other sources, more than 400 matches and 33 goals) [2] . During this time, as part of his team, he three times (in 1962, 1967 and 1969) became the champion of the USSR, four times - a silver medalist and three times - a bronze medalist of the USSR championship [1] [2] . During performances for Moscow Spartak played in different years together with defenders Anatoly Ryzhov , Alexei Makarov , Yevgeny Kobzev , Dmitry Kitaev , Yevgeny Paladiev [3] and Vladimir Ispolnov [5] . Four times (in 1961-1963 and 1969) was one of the best hockey players of the season [6] .
In 1972-1975, Valery Kuzmin played for the Wings of the Soviets team (Moscow) , scoring 4 goals in 70 matches of the USSR Championship [2] [7] . During this time, as part of his team, he once (in 1974) became the champion of the USSR, once - a silver medalist and once - a bronze medalist of the USSR championship [1] [2] . During performances for “Wings of the Soviets” he played in tandem with defender Viktor Kuznetsov [3] .
Valery Kuzmin also played for the USSR national hockey team , in which, in 1960-1965, he held five friendly games [8] .
In 1975-1976, Valery Kuzmin played for the Jokerit team ( Helsinki , Finland) [1] .
After the end of his playing career, Valery Kuzmin worked as a coach in the Moscow team “Wings of the Soviets” (1976-1980) and in the Sunday “Chemist” (1980-1986), and also coached children's teams “Kirovets” (Moscow) [4] .
