Description
Korshev is mentioned twice in the annals: the first time in Rogozhskaya in 1362 due to the epidemic of pestilence in the Horde, in the cities of Novosil, Korshev, Bryansk and Kolomna, the second time in Nikonovskaya in connection with the ruin by the Lithuanians in 1363. And for the third time in the “ List of Russian cities near and far ” in 1390 it was mentioned as Korshov on Sosn , the easternmost city, attributed to Kiev lands . Attempts to localize the city have been made repeatedly. But, having analyzed all the known information, they stopped at the ancient settlement near the village of Gorodetskoye. Korshev was located on a high cape formed by the bank of the Foshnia River - a tributary of the Fast Pine and a ravine, 35 km from the same old Russian city of Livny and was part of the Ryazan principality . The location of this small town away from the big road - the Muravsky Way turned out to be successful. He survived the invasion of the Horde in the 13th century, unlike Liven. [1] The layout is typical for small towns of ancient Russia. A cape triangular in plan from the front side cut a moat and a horseshoe-shaped shaft with a total height of about 5 meters. The entrance to the fortress was where the shaft bent to a cliff above the river. On the rampart and on the crest of the hill stood a picket fence with a fence and towers. The total length of the wooden walls was about 250 meters. After the epidemic of 1362–1363, the population of the city decreased significantly, and Korshev was attacked by Lithuanians . Horde did not destroy the town. Perhaps they needed him as a transshipment point for trade with Russia or was under their protectorate. Korshev was the westernmost stronghold in Pososen (the Sosny river basin), first of Ryazan, and then of the specific Elets principalities.
