Albina Tsybikova was born in 1951 in the village of Aginskoye ( Aginsky Buryat-Mongolian National District of the Chita Region ). She preferred to be called Alla, since she did not like her “passport name” [1] . Alla Tsybikova described her childhood as follows:

“... my childhood is a city, and still, very early childhood, it is military patrols and the village where my father was a military commissar. But there is very little for me there - not memories, but sensations: hot soft dust under bare feet, fear of geese and rare cars on the road, the whole company picking sulfur from larch logs - I don’t know if there is such fun and goodies in the west ...? ” [one]

Alla Tsybikova about herself:

“How did I choose a profession? Like many children - someone from music clubs and schools, and then a school and conservatory, so I - first a drawing club in the House of Pioneers, then an art school ... So I, having first entered this path in the House of Pioneers, still I have been delirious in this dusty rut ... My favorite artists? Matisse is still unchanged ... It is strange when you need to name your favorite artists, something wedges and it turns out that this is not a simple matter ” [1]

Creative Way

In 1975, Alla Tsybikova became a participant in an exhibition in Prague (the Prague Quadrennial of Scenography - the study section), presenting theatrical sketches for the play based on the play by A. V. Sukhovo-Kobylin “The Death of Tarelkin ”. In 1975, he creates sketches of theatrical scenery for the performance of the Nose (opera) . The artist’s diploma work was sketches of theatrical scenery and costumes for Shakespeare’s play “ A Midsummer Night’s Dream ”, they were exhibited at the exhibition “Youth of the Country” (Moscow, 1976).

Having returned after graduation in 1976 in Ulan-Ude , she sometimes carried out orders for sketches of sets and costumes in theaters, and in a short time created a series of psychological portraits . Among these works - “Portrait of a ballet dancer Alexei Pavlenko” (1979), “Portrait with a magpie feather” (1981), “Great still life ” (1984), “ Self-portrait with a model by the winter window” (1984).

In the late 1970s, after a trip to the construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway , Alla Tsybikova performed a series of works for the exhibition “We Build BAM” (1979), among these works - “ Gougekit . April 2 "(1978). In 1982, the artist creates a wall painting - a fresco "On the Land of Geser " in the foyer of the Buryat Academic Drama Theater . In 1983-1984, Alla Tsybikova worked on the “Panorama of a Tale” wall painting in the building of the mother and child room at Ulan-Ude Airport , and in 1989-1990, on wall painting and a curtain in the Ulger Puppet Theater. In 1982-1983, the artist worked on the triptych “At the Source”, one of the most compositionally complex paintings, each fragment of which carries a deep meaning.

In different years, Alla Tsybikova creates landscapes that reflect the real Transbaikal landscapes - “Autumn Fields” (1989), “Autumn Evening” (1992), portraits - “Great Still Life” (1984), “Kid” (1986) - a portrait of Sasha’s son, “Boy with a Fish” (1990), “Zorik with a Cube” (1989). The artist herself considered one of the most powerful works the portrait of her friend’s son “Boy on a Bear's Skin” (1992) [1] [3] .

In the works of Alla Tsybikova, including portraits, the landscape background, interior, as well as objects placed in the space of the painting (figurines, ancient iconographic scrolls, etc.) are of great semantic importance, bouquets of flowers often appear, much attention is paid to staffing in landscapes .

The space of the paintings (especially in the early works) can be “dissected” vertically like theatrical scenery, and also divided into time intervals - several episodes with the same character in the same picture (for example, the painting “The Last Guest” (1982)).

The mural style “On the Land of Geser” in the foyer of the Buryat Academic Drama Theater is associated with the monumental wall paintings of Buddhist monasteries . This painting includes many figures of people (theatrical characters, heroes of the Buryat folk epos " Geser ", the beautiful Selenga ), animals, a panorama of modern life in Buryatia.

In Alla Tsybikova’s paintings, symbols of European and Eastern cultures can be present at the same time - in the triptych “At the source” there is a girl with a lily, Charon is a carrier, a woman in the pose of Mary Magdalene and Buddhist three monkeys covering their ears, eyes and mouth with their hands. Buddhist motifs in the form of objects - masks, figurines, vessels, scrolls, shells are present in many works, for example, in portraits “A Big Still Life” (1984), “Blowing Soap Bubbles” (1989). In the portrait of Ledum (1991), as well as in the painting On the Land of Geser, there is a figure of a member of the Buddhist religious performance Tsam in the mask of Chojal ( Erlik Khan ). Apsara supports the window curtain in the portrait “Mother and Child” (1989), the portrait “With Chanza ” (1993) depicts the national Mongolian and Buryat musical instrument.

 Autumn wind (diptych), 1983

About the symbolism of the diptych “Autumn Wind” (1983), on the left side of which is a woman sitting against a landscape, and on the right side is a rural landscape and a still life of dried flowers and a wooden bird figurine, the artist said this:

“The picture is still gloomy for me. And here the bird is also gloomy. This is not a scarecrow, it’s taken from one cave on the “holy” hill one offering to the owner of the mountains in the form of a carved pigeon. The boys got and dragged me, for which my father was going to hatch the instigator, but I paid off - sprinkled little things about a ruble in this cave - and the boy remained whole, and I with the bird ... she, along with dry flowers, bears the same load - time, dying, the irreversibility of time ... A woman in a blanket (here again the shape of a snail), a look inside, into herself, almost a meditation ... my “Autumn Wind” is often interpreted very simply, but my riddles and questions are mistaken for the inability to solve the composition and put it out often only still life, and poor philosophy the snail and meditator are left in the dark corridor ” [1]

Alla Tsybikova made sketches for horse hair tapestries and participated directly in their creation (weavers Bayarma Dambieva, Alima Tsyrendorzhieva, Rimma Dorzhieva, T. Dashieva, S. Dashieva worked on the tapestries). The most famous tapestries are “Waterfall” (National Airport), “Playing the Flute” (Gorky National Library), “Cloud Land” (Republican Youth Library). She also painted wood, created models of candlesticks (subsequently cast in bronze by sculptor Dmitry Budazhabe) [2] .

The style of later works is characterized by the simplicity of the drawing and composition, the "wide" manner of writing with the predominance of large color spots - "Boy with a Fish" (1990), "It's Time for Autumn Winds" (1993). Very often in the works of Alla Tsybikova there are images of birds. The jay symbolizes human habitation in the film “The Late Guest” (1982), the hoopoe on the head of the “Mistress of the Hills” acts as a symbol of autumn, the extinction of life and at the same time fruitfulness (the right side of the triptych “Naran Hada” (1984)).

Fantastic images of the “bird-people” in later paintings - “The Cockerel” (1991), “The Melody of the Cold Spring” (1992), “Someone Calls in the Snow Steppe” (1996), the image of a person turning into a bird in the picture “Consolation "(1995) is difficult to interpret unambiguously, but they undoubtedly were of great importance for the artist [1] [3] .
