In 1998, in Cazorla , Vladimir Kramnik won the match with a score of +2 = 7 −0. According to the regulations, the winner of this match was to fight with Kasparov for the chess crown. However, the main sponsor of the cycle, Louis Rentero, due to financial problems, refused to organize the match. Kasparov could not find any other sponsors. At the same time, Shirov did not receive either prizes for the match with Kramnik, or compensation for the failed match with Kasparov [3] . Later, Shirov and Kasparov were accused of disrupting each other’s negotiations [4] [5] . In 2000, the loser in the selection of Shirov Kramnik beat Kasparov and became the world champion.
Shirov's style of play is close to the style of the eighth world champion Mikhail Tal (1936–1992). Tal attracted Shirov to his camps in the late 1980s and had a great influence on shaping the style of Shirov’s play. “This boy already now thinks better than me,” said Tal, a young student, [6] . Mikhail Botvinnik spoke highly of the chess talent of Alexei Shirov. Kasparov mentions that during the sessions of the Botvinnik-Kasparov School, Botvinnik repeatedly emphasized his exceptional talent.
In 2000, Alexey Shirov reached the final of the FIDE World Championship, where he lost to Anand. Thus, Shirov was the vice-champion of the FIDE world in 2000-2002. 2007 World Cup finalist. The highest rating is 2755 (January 2008).
