Biography

Artifacts from the rule of Lipit-Enlil did not survive. His brief reign ended a period of relative stability in the history of the kingdom of Yixing. Erra-imitti , whose origin is unknown, became his successor, since the Sumerian royal list ceases to include this information from now on. Also noticeable is the absence of royal hymns or songs of praise from the rule of Lipit-Enlil, as well as from his successor. Perhaps this is due to the outbreak of the conflict between Ishin and Lars , where at that time one of the most powerful kings of this city, Sumu-El , ruled. The names of the years of the rule of Lipit-Enlil, following the year of his accession to the throne, somewhat monotonously remember only the generous gifts of the king to the temple of Enlil .

420 fragments of documents found in the archive of the Ninurta Temple (Esumesha, é-šu-me-ša 2 ) in Nippur , dating from the first year of Lipit-Enlil to the 28th year from Rome-Sina , that is, for almost eighty years . These clay tablets were accidentally preserved due to the fact that they were used as a building filler in the construction of the walls of the temple of Inanna in the Parthian period . An analysis of the documents shows the enrichment of the temple against the backdrop of an increasingly ruined population.

According to the Royal List and the List of the Kings of Ur and Isin , Lipit-Enlil ruled for 5 years.
