History
Foundation of the Monastery
MV Sannikov met Buddhism in the late 1980s in Afghanistan , where he, a career officer, special forces commander, saw monuments of Buddhist civilization that flourished there during the pre-Islamic period [3] on mountain passes. After ending his participation in the Afghan war, Sannikov left the army, went to Buryatia , to the Ivolginsky datsan , becoming a student of Darma-Dodi Zhalsaraev . May 15, 1995 began construction of a Buddhist monastery on Mount Kachkanar . The place for her, like the first students, was indicated to him by his teacher. [four]
Since 2015, a study group of the Lama Tsongkhapa Mahayana Tradition Foundation, founded with the blessing of Lama Sopa Rinpoche, has been engaged in Shedrub Ling. [five]
For 20 years, Shedrub Ling has become one of the centers for the study of Buddhism in Russia and just a tourist attraction that attracts thousands of tourists.
Registration of land rights
Members of the community tried many times to legalize the buildings, but the land rights were claimed by the Kachkanar mining and processing plant , whose quarries are nearby, as well as the Forestry Department.
On February 9, 2016, information appeared on the website of the Office of the Federal Bailiff Service in the Sverdlovsk Region "about the upcoming demolition of the" Buddhist monastery "on Mount Kachkanar" [3] . As the press wrote, “The work of life and the fruits of the incredible stubbornness of Mikhail Sannikov and the hundreds of people who helped him during these years can go to dust, and the Buddhist stupas stunning the imagination among the Ural mountains can disappear” [3] .
The Evraz company invited the Buddhist community to move to Mount Mokhnatka , located 3 km from Kachkanar, and promised to help with the move. Members of the community then stated that they did not have the opportunity to transport stupas. According to the chairman of the community Arseny Bakharev, the temple was founded in 1995 at the place indicated by the Buryat lama. He added that the community has repeatedly tried to draw up land documents and discussed with the authorities the possibility of moving. Representatives of the travel industry and musician Boris Grebenshchikov [6] , a Buddhist A. A. Terentyev, also spoke out in defense of the temple.
In late February, the authorities of the Sverdlovsk region decided to postpone the demolition of the monastery and create a working group that will consider the possibility of preserving the monastery [6] [7] .
