Bishop Sergius ( Melnikov ; 1856 - December 12, 1934 ) - Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church , Bishop of Lyubim , Vicar of the Yaroslavl Diocese .
Biography
The list of bishops compiled by Metropolitan Seraphim (Aleksandrov) indicates that he graduated from a theological seminary [1] .
According to the data of Metropolitan Manuel (Lemeshevsky), he was consecrated on November 16 (29) 1925 as bishop of Lyubimsky, vicar of the Yaroslavl diocese [2] , which is inconsistent with the local church record kept by the clergy of the city of Lyubim, according to which bishop of Lyubimsky Sergius arrived in the city of Lyubim March 1, 1925 [3] . Also, this date is not consistent with the cited date of delivery to Hieromonk Hierofei (Glazkov) , which Bishop Sergius made in Lyubim on May 25, 1925 [4] .
Together with him, his subdeacon and closest assistant Mikhail Gundyaev, the father of Patriarch Kirill, came to Love . He lived in Lyubim in a two-story wooden house, located at the intersection of Vologda and Lyubimskaya streets (subsequently demolished) [3] .
He was a great connoisseur of church singing, had a good musical education, played the violin, and in his spare time from worship and vicarious affairs he gathered young people and children from the city of Lyubim in his house and taught them church singing. He created a choir of youth and children, who sang at divine services in the churches of the city of Lubim. The subdeacon of Bishop Sergius, Mikhail Gundyaev, also sang in this choir. Many of the composition of this choir then continued to sing in the city’s only temple, which was not closed during the Soviet years, the Spaso-Vvedensky cemetery [3] .
Sheltered in the Favorite of the monks, closed in 1924, the Pavlo-Obnorsky monastery of the Vologda diocese, who found themselves without shelter and livelihood. It is known that for some time in the city of Lyubim they lived and worshiped in the churches of the city, the former abbot of the monastery, Archimandrite Nikon (Chulkov) , as well as hieromonk Michael (Lakov) [3] .
None of the churches of the Lyubimsky Vicariates under Bishop Sergius evaded a renovation schism [3] .
In 1926, Bishop Sergius for his active work was exiled to Poltoratsk ( Ashgabat ) for three years [3] .
The further fate is unknown. According to the data of Manuil (Lemeshevsky) ended on December 12, 1934 [2] .
