Biography

Childhood

Henry Lee Lucas was born on August 23, 1936 in Blacksburg , Virginia in the family of a former work station. His father, Anderson Lucas, was injured by work - he lost both legs - as a result, he lost his job and began to drink excessively. Mother Henry Viola Lucas was an active prostitute and a cruel woman, she often humiliated and beat her son, made him look at how she has sex with clients. There have also been cases when young Henry was sexually abused by his mother’s clients [4] . Anderson, along with other relatives, gave Henry a small bull , whom the boy loved and often played with him, but once Viola took Henry into the yard and shot his beloved pet before his eyes [5] . There was also a case when a mother hit Henry on the head with a blackboard for obviousness, apparently this affected the psyche of the future serial killer. In the early days of school, Henry came in a female form and many children scoffed and laughed at him [6] . From the age of 10, Henry Lee Lucas began to use alcohol.

In adolescence, Henry suffered an eye injury during the fight, which led to infection, Viola refused to take him to the doctor, which subsequently led to amputation of his left eye, he was replaced with a glass one, which disfigured his appearance.

First kill

After the death of his father, Henry dropped out of school and fled home. In 1951, 16-year-old Lucas committed the first murder, his victim was 17-year-old Laura Barnsley, but Henry was put in a juvenile colony for burglary [7] . Released in 1953, he again committed the theft and murder of a prostitute, according to Lucas “reminiscent of his mother” and went to prison for four years.

In 1959, Henry moved to Michigan with his sister and left to live with her. In January 11, 1960, his mother arrives in 1960, she begins a conversation that Henry is obliged to take care of her, on the same day they quarrel and remember past grievances, and according to Lucas she hit him with a broom in the head, killed her mother in a rage, crushing her head with a bottle (according to other sources, a hammer [8] ). Henry Lee Lucas was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but a year later he was transferred to a psychiatric clinic. There he revealed several diseases and abnormalities: psychopathy , sadism and schizophrenia , there were also several suicide attempts. Lucas began to study materials on the results of other killers, he delved into their methods and analyzed them.

Meeting Ottis Tool and Crimes

In 1975, Lucas left the clinic (despite the threat that he would kill again, be free [9] ) and decided to start his life from a new sheet, but since he lacked money and permanent housing, he was in poverty and wandered . In the same year, he met Ottis Tool and begins to live with him and his 12-year-old niece, Frida Becky Powell in Jacksonville , Florida . They had much in common with Tula: they were sexually abused and humiliated by their mothers, they were killers before they met, they had homosexual inclinations. After killing the driver, Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Tool, along with their niece Becky, who admired their lifestyle, hijacked a truck and drove “looking for happiness,” they traveled to 26 states in their entire lives. Lucas became close to Becky, loved her and cared for her as his own daughter, while at the same time teaching her the basics of theft, robbery and murder. Thule also studied the customs of cannibals. They developed a sustainable way to commit crimes: they kill the victim, having previously raped them, after which the corpse is refreshed and fried for lunch or dinner. The remains of the victim were buried far from the place of the murder, which also complicated the investigation. The killers were prudent: the choice fell on the victims only when the criminals were convinced that the victim was moving to another state, and, accordingly, they would not be looking for it for some time. According to the murderers, in one year they killed 97 people [10] , their victims were hitchhikers, emigrants and prostitutes.

“Ottis loved humanity and“ hooked ”me on her. First, we raped the victim, then we killed her, and then again they raped. And only then they let her meat for food. It is quite tasty, especially with ketchup. Inedible remains were dismembered and buried in different places, having previously crushed the head with a hammer. ”(Henry Lee Lucas)

There is also a version that they entered into the satanic cult “Hand of Death”, but this is not confirmed [11] .

Breakup Relations

In Florida, Becky is put in a juvenile colony, later Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Tool get her out of there. In 1982, a couple of maniacs broke up. Henry Lee Lucas and Becky fled Ottis and became lovers. A year later, Becky decides to return to the colony to serve his term and become a respectable person. On the way, they quarrel and Henry kills her, dismembering.

Arrest

The last victim of Lucas is an elderly woman Kate Rich, after which he is arrested, but for illegal possession of firearms and only then he confessed to the murder. To slow the investigation, Lucas confessed many crimes for six years, even attributing to himself the murders of Ottis Tula. Initially, he confessed to 60, and then to 100 murders. The media and the testimonies of many acquaintances attributed to him from 47 to 89 murders, and dozens of dead bodies were also found by Lucas. But the killer could not remember all the details of his crimes, so in court he was accused of only 11 proven murders. In 1998, he was sentenced to death, but then Texas Governor George W. Bush replaced the death penalty with life imprisonment. Henry Lee Lucas died of a heart attack on March 12, 2001.
