He has been engaged in scientific work since 1965, when he became a mediator at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences . Then he works as a chief scientific researcher, transfers to the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the Institute of Chemical Physics and Biology, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences , and since 2011 transfers to the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1975 he defended his thesis “Some regularities of the processes of formation and fusion of nucleoli” [1] . The topic of his doctoral dissertation is “Electron-microscopic analysis of the chromomeric organization of Drosophila polytene chromosomes” (1990) [2] [3] .

Achievements

V.F.Semeshin gained fame as a specialist in the field of electron microscopy of polytene chromosomes . He worked outside of Russia, publishing dozens of articles in the international press. Semeshin’s methods were included in cytogenetics textbooks [2] . He developed methods for creating an artificial chromosome structure based on transformation - embedding fragments of genetic material with the required characteristics [4] .

Rewards

  • State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for the cycle of work “Organization of the genome and regulation of gene activity in eukaryotes ” (2003) [5]
  • Prize of the RAS named after N.K. Koltsov for the series of works “Molecular genetic organization of polytene chromosomes ” (2000)
  • Diplomas and prizes of the SB RAS [2] .
